From May 26 to 28, 2008, a group of American doctors from Nemours Clinic Wolfson Children’s Hospital (Jacksonville, Florida) were staying at the Crimean Republic Children’s Clinical Hospital (Simferopol, the Crimea), assisting in treatment of Crimean children. The visit was organized by Joyce Sibson Dove, head of the Florida Foundation for Children.
The members of the American delegation were Doctors Michael J. Erhard (Urology), Kevin Neil (Orthopedics), Richard Bosco (Anesthesiology), surgical technician Janice Holycross, and plastic surgeon cum member of the Florida Foundation for Children Dr. Charles Moore.
In course of the visit, the American and Crimean doctors exchanged their experience regarding the treatment for grave urological and orthopedic patients. After a series of consultations, ten surgeries were performed on 9 children by the Crimean Republic Children’s Clinical Hospital surgeons and orthopedists jointly with their American colleagues. The surgeries were performed on a high technical level; the patients haven’t developed any post-surgical complications.
Also as part of the visit’s schedule, the American doctors consulted orphaned children from the Yalynka orphanage, Yalta orphanage, and disabled children.
